At least a digital representation of the "Mona Lisa" has traveled to and from the moon.
According to NASA, the renowned visage was utilized in an experiment and sent in a laser beam to an artificial satellite orbiting the moon.
The successful transmission represents a significant accomplishment because it is "the first time anyone has achieved one-way laser communication at planetary distances," according to principal investigator David Smith of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Renaissance painter Leonardo da Vinci would have appreciated it.
